The Halton District School Board is hosting its annual conference for parents and guardians of students in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.

‘Nurturing the Whole Child: Mind, Body and Spirit’ is the theme of this year’s Parent Involvement Committee conference on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Elsie MacGill Secondary School, 1410 Bronte St. S., Milton.

Registration is open to HDSB parents and guardians.

This year’s conference features keynote speaker Dr. Jean M. Clinton, clinical professor at McMaster University’s department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.

Clinton has been a consultant to children and youth mental health programs, child welfare and primary care for more than 30 years. She is renowned nationally and internationally as an advocate for children’s issues.

Clinton will share her knowledge and expertise with families on how, through compassion, connection and hope, we can create the conditions for our children to flourish and thrive at all times, as well as challenging times.

“The Halton District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee is thrilled to host this annual conference, filled with an outstanding keynote speaker, workshops and curated content,” says Aiman Flahat, superintendent of Education for the Halton District School Board.

“This conference is designed to recognize the important role parents play in the development of their children and in their success throughout their school experience.”

Following the keynote address, there will be workshops that address topics such as Outdoor Experiential Education Family Engagement, Collaborative Problem Solving – A New Way of Understanding and Responding to Challenging Behaviour, Doing Mathematics With Your Child and many more.

Child minding is provided at no cost for children of junior Kindergarten age up to 12. Morning refreshments and lunch are also provided.
