Halton Teacher Charged in Child Porn Case

A Kitchener man who teaches in the Halton District School Board is being accused of sex crimes involving young children.

Waterloo police searched a Kitchener home on Feb. 14, seizing digital devices.

The Internet child exploitation investigation began after police received complaints from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC) regarding allegations that a man was exploiting kids via social media platforms.

Victor Ly, 32, of Kitchener, was arrested.

He’s charged with three counts of luring a child, three counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of make sexually explicit material available to a child and extortion.

The charges are in relation to three victims ranging in age from eight to 12.

Ly is an occasional teacher with the HDSB, say police, and also has experience teaching internationally and in Waterloo Region private schools.

Anyone with information is asked to phone the Waterloo Regional Police cybercrime unit at 519-653-7700 ext. 8456.
