With warm weather upon us and a long weekend to look forward to, many Hamilton diners are no doubt looking for a patio on which to eat, drink and take in the sun.

Fortunately for those who like to enjoy their food and drink al fresco (especially before the wasps come out in full force), the city is full of restaurants with patios and one restaurant in particular made OpenTable’s recently released Canada’s 100 Most Popular Outdoor Dining Restaurants List

The resto?

Rapscallion & Co, which calls itself “a mischievous and vibrant part of Hamilton’s restaurant scene, dedicated to offering the city’s culinary connoisseurs a full nose-to-tail experience.”

Rapscallion & Co was also recently featured on OpenTable’s best brunch roundup (the restaurant offers a unique Beatles-themed brunch menu that features Eggs McCartney with avocado and pico de Gallo). Some notable menu items for the dinner crowd include oysters (freshly shucked and Rockefeller), steak tartare, halloumi tikka masala, duck bolognese and Kobe beef dumplings.

The restaurant also offers a late-night menu with its signature chicken liver brulee and “the best grilled cheese.”

Rapscallion & Co also boasts an extensive selection of cocktails for those who enjoy imbibing both in and outdoors.

The list, compiled by the popular restaurant reservation and review website, features 59 restaurants in Ontario, 21 in British Columbia, nine in Quebec, seven in Alberta, and four in Atlantic Canada.

The breakdown features a wide array of southern Ontario restaurants, including those located in Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, Whitby and the Niagara region.

“April dining was up 4% in Canada [year-over-year], likely a result of warmer temperatures and Canadians enjoying an early start to outdoor dining,” said Matt Davis, country director, OpenTable Canada, in a statement.

OpenTable also revealed a few interesting facts about Canadians’ dining habits, noting that people tend to enjoy eating Italian fare outdoors the most. The organization also noticed some regional differences, pointing out that diners in Vancouver tend to favour restaurants specializing in seafood and Canadian and Japanese cuisine.

OpenTable says the list was curated by analyzing over one million reviews from OpenTable diners between March 1, 2022, and Feb. 28, 2023.
