Lakeshore Rd. plays a vital role in the everyday lives of Oakville residents and the town’s overall transportation network.

Now the town, initiated by the Lakeshore Road West Environmental Study (EA) – which assessed the current and future traffic needs along Lakeshore Road West – has launched a multi-year Lakeshore Rd. W. Design and Reconstruction Project.

The work, which is already underway, will upgrade infrastructure, improve traffic, beautify streets, and improve pedestrian/cycleways on Lakeshore Rd. W. between Mississauga St. and Dorval Dr.

Here’s your opportunity to learn about when the first public engagement meeting will take place later this fall and how you can join the project mailing list to get ongoing updates.

The public will be able to get involved in the project by sharing your input on the design criteria and elements that should be included to enhance this section of Lakeshore Rd. W.

Over the course of the project, several engagement opportunities will take place to share information and gather feedback including both in-person and virtual engagement events, online surveys, and direct emails from the project team.

The first public engagement meeting by the town is tentatively scheduled for late Nov. 2023. More details will follow.

“The design will both inform and be informed by public engagement,” said the Town of Oakville. There are five rounds of engagement planned. Each round will offer different ways to participate, share feedback and raise community awareness.

“We will evaluate success within each round and look at opportunities for continuous improvement.”

In Round 2, a preliminary design will be discussed with multiple design options presented for feedback. Round 3 will reveal a detailed design (60 per cent completion), while Round 4 will reveal a further detailed design (90 per cent completion). Information about construction phasing, traffic management will also be conveyed.

In Round 5, the final design will be presented to the public and represent the best balance of all factors based on public input received during the first four engagement rounds.

The projected timeline for the Lakeshore Rd. project will see a detailed design development and public consultation done between 2023 and 2025.

The design will be completed in 2025. The first phase of construction, including Dorval Rd. to Fourth Line is projected to be completed in 2026, followed by the second phase of Fourth Line to Third Line in 2028 and the third and final phase of Third Line to Mississauga St. in 2030.

Work already underway includes tree assessment and inventory, a comprehensive mapping of utilities within the right-of-way (this fall), and an engineering survey.
