A heat warning remains in effect today through Sunday, possibly extending into Monday for some areas.

A heat warning remains in effect today through Sunday, possibly extending into Monday for some areas.

Environment Canada is calling for daytime highs of 29 to 33 degrees Celsius (feeling more like 36 to 39 degrees Celsius with humidity) and overnight lows of 17 to 20 degrees Celsius.

“Hot and humid air can bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category,” says Environment Canada. “The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.”

Residents are advised to check on older family, friends and neighbours, make sure they are cool and hydrated, and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
