If you like booze, you might have noticed that as the months fly by, more and more major grocery stores are able to sell beer, wine, and cider, in Halton.
If you like booze, you might have noticed that as the months fly by, more and more major grocery stores are able to sell beer, wine, and cider, in Halton.
On the one hand, that means you don’t have to go to The Beer Store or the LCBO to snag your favourite brands of booze. On the other, grocery stores have been fairly piecemeal in getting licenced to sell alcohol.
This can be considered good news for both consumers and business owners.
“Every additional location for sales creates new opportunities for small beer and cider producers, whose products must represent at least 20 per cent of the beer and 20 per cent of the cider on display in grocery stores,” reads a recent release from the province.

“By law, grocers selling beer, cider or wine must have designated sales areas and operate within standard hours of sale, abide by limitations on package size and alcohol content, and meet staffing and social responsibility training requirements.”
So, if you’re a drinker, it’s helpful to note which grocery stores in our area can sell beer, wine, and cider.
According to the province, ultimately, beer, wine and cider will be available in up to 450 grocery stores in Ontario. That’s in addition to 450 Beer Stores and more than 660 LCBO stores across Ontario.
As of April 2018, more than 350 grocery stores across Ontario can now sell beer and cider, including up to 70 that can sell wine.
