Halton Hills is encouraging Canadian professional artists to create original banner artwork for the town for the first time under the new Public Art Master Plan.

The chosen artwork, according to a recent press release, will be displayed in multiple locations throughout the community with a banner installation.

The installation, according to the release, will be comprised of seven original designs which will be repeated across Halton Hills in order to create a cohesive outdoor art installation.

And in order to showcase the town’s commitment to the environment, and high quality of life, the theme of the installation will be sustainability.

“The interpretive works will aim to spark conversations and encourage community engagement,” reads the release.

The project proposal was developed by the Public Art Advisory Board.

“A banner project was selected as an ideal way to raise the profile of the new Public Art Program by reaching as many residents and visitors as possible by having installations in multiple locations throughout Halton Hills at the same time,” notes the release.

And according to Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette, the theme of the project is incredibly suitable.

“The blend of art with the sustainability theme is a very timely concept, that fits well with the town’s strong focus on culture, the environment and creating a great place to live, visit and work,” Bonnette said in a statement. “This first public art project promises to be inspiring and thought-provoking for residents and visitors alike.”

The artwork will be displayed from January to June of 2020.

The application deadline for anyone wishing to submit their work is June 11, 2019, by 9:00 a.m.
