The Ontario government has provided Oakville with a grant for businesses in the town to improve their online presence.

Oakville’s Economic Development department announced the $30,000 grant on Aug. 15, 2019.

The money will be used to help fund a ‘Digital Service Squad’ that will help main street businesses. This program is funded by the Ontario government and delivered by the Ontario BIA Association.

“The $30,000 provincial grant complements the $20,000 the town has already contributed to the program as part of the mitigation strategy for the Lakeshore Road Streetscape Project,” reads a recent press release.

The town, according to the release, received the grant on behalf of the Downtown Oakville BIA, the Bronte Village BIA, and the Kerr Village BIA to extend the contract for two specialists who are currently helping small businesses in the area improve their online presence.

“The Downtown Oakville BIA is pleased that this free resource is available to help our members grow and succeed,” executive director, Sharlene Plewman, said in a statement. “Whether a restaurant, merchant or service provider, businesses have the opportunity to apply for a $2,500 grant, as well as work with digital experts to increase awareness and sales.”

Currently, work is underway with 30 businesses across the identified areas, and more businesses will be introduced to the program over the coming months. Businesses that are interested in meeting with the Digital Service Squad should contact Mary Vallee, Communications Liaison, Downtown Projects Strategy.
