Here’s How Downtown Acton Has Changed Within the Past Year
If you live in, or if you've visited, downtown Acton within the past year you may have noticed some significant changes.
The community located in Halton Hills has grown exponentially.
New business openings are a big part of the community's growth. In the past eight months, according to a press release, nine new businesses have opened in the Downtown Acton Business Improvement Area (DABIA).
A few of these new openings include The Co-operators Group Limited,Plant Society Kitchen, Ambition Performing Arts Studio, Helson Law Office, JV Computer Repair, and Oh Behave Canine Pawellege.
Although, new openings are not the only thing that has contributed to the growth of downtown Acton.
A new logo and website were launched in June of 2018, and a new BIA general manager was introduced in July.
The success of several events in the area has also helped downtown Acton grow and thrive. Back in August, downtown Acton was host to the very successful Leathertown Festival. The community has also been the host of other successful events including Culture Days and Doors Open in September, and Haunted Hills.
"As the council representative on the BIA Board, it's been extremely gratifying to see the very positive and tangible rewards of the proactive work being done by town staff and the organization's manager," Councillor Michael Albano said in the release.
As 2018 concluded, positive changes in Acton did not. At the end of last year, revitalized and repurposed Christmas decor and LED lighting was brought into the community.
According to the release, this provided over $60,000 of decorative value to the downtown space.
The release notes that, "The environmental approach will save the BIA over $17,000 over the lifetime of the new LEDs."
More positive changes are expected for the Acton community in 2019. Work is already underway for a number of other service business openings this year, including food service and health-related services.
