Halton Police officers are taking steps in order to reduce aggressive driving in Milton and Halton Hills.

The District Response Team accompanied by Platoon Officers will target drivers who ignore speed limits, placing themselves and other road users at risk.

Officers, as noted in a recent press release, will be equipped with speed measuring equipment and operate marked and unmarked vehicles at numerous locations throughout the two towns during the month of April.

The goal of this project, which has been dubbed as project ‘rural impact’ is to reduce aggressive driving in rural communities in the two municipalities.

“Halton Police recognize that many citizens in these rural communities have very real concerns about speeding motorists,” reads the release. “We want to help make these roadways as safe as possible so that people can walk their dogs, ride their bikes and pull into and out of their driveways without fear.”

During the project, District Response Team officers will also target drivers who drive at 50km/h or more over the posted limit.

“This rate of speed falls into the category of ‘stunt’ driving,” notes the release. Drivers who are caught travelling at this rate will face an automatic driver’s licence suspension and immediate seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Anyone who witnesses ‘stunt’ driving and/or ‘racing’ is asked to report the incident to police when it is safe to do so.

What do you think of the rural impact project?
