Burlington’s music scene just keeps on getting bigger, and now another band is representing the city internationally.

Back in October of 2018, inhalton.com reported on a music documentary, Band Geeks, that follows the Burlington Teen Tour Band (BTTB), Canada’s oldest youth marching band, as they prepared for the 2018 Rose Parade – a parade typically known as the highlight in a marching band’s career.

There are typically one million people lining the streets in Pasadena, California, where the parade is held, and viewers from 150 countries.

The documentary, which was produced by former bandmate Morgan Elliott, first premiered on Oct. 19, 2018, on CBC. It can still be viewed on YouTube or on the CBC Docs website.

Now, according to a recent press release, Band Geeks has been accepted into two film festivals: The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival and the Pasadena International Film Festival – which is recognized as one of the top 100 film festivals (over 5,000 films are submitted).

These acceptances is something the managing director of BTTB is happy to see.

“The documentary really highlights the efforts these members put into the band,” Rob Bennett, Managing Director of BTTB, said in the release. “They spend many long, hard hours practising and working on their music. The bonds they form over their time with the band, they really do become family and proud of the name Band Geeks. I’m glad to see the documentary being able to reach people across the continent and being recognized.”

The BTTB is a marching band that was first established in 1947. Since then, the band has become Canada’s premier youth marching band and performs 60 to 80 times per year – in parades, field shows, concerts, special events, and in TV and movie shoots.

Anyone between the ages of 13 and 21 can join the band. New members, according to the release, can join anytime throughout the year and no experience is required.
