For many, a common New Year’s resolution is to get more active.

For many, a common New Year’s resolution is to get more active.

And luckily, there is an event taking place on New Year’s Day right here in Halton where people can kick off the year doing exactly that.

The event that is taking place is one that has been a tradition for many years and is known as the Courage Polar Bear Dip – the largest and the longest-running charity event of its kind in the country.

The event is put on by World Vision and, according to a recent press release, is a fundraising event where participants can pledge $25 or more and jump into the cold waters of Lake Ontario.

Since 1995, this event has helped raise roughly $1.7 million for World Vision clean water projects.

The Polar Bear Dip is open to people of all ages.

Also, at the event, there will be live music, food stations, and entertainment. There will also be a costume contest and prizes will be given out for the most imaginative attire.

As mentioned, it will take place on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1) in the town (Coronation Park, Oakville, 1426 Lakeshore Rd. W.). The goal of the event this year is to raise over $120,000 in funds for World Vision’s clean water initiatives.

The event will be running from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the dip itself taking place at 2 p.m.
