Here’s How You Can Ring in the New Year in Milton
If you've been pondering what you're going to do on New Year's Eve this year, then ponder no more because the Town of Milton has you covered.
Here's how you can ring in the New Year right in the Town of Milton.
The town is inviting Milton residents to join Mayor Gord Krantz for the annual tradition of the bell ringing on New Year's Eve followed by the Council-hosted New Year's Day Levee.
The bell ringing will be happened at Victoria Park on Monday, Dec. 31 at 11:45 p.m., in front of Hugh Foster Hall (141 King St.).
The honorary bell ringer for 2019 is Cindy Lunau, a valued Councillor for the last 20 years.
The Mayor and Councillors' New Year's Day Levee will be happening on Jan. 1, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Milton Town Hall (150 Mary St.). This year, the tradition of conversation and refreshments to kick off the year will be continuing.
The New Year's Levee tradition dates all the way back to 1646 when the governor of New France hosted the event to wish the citizens a Happy New Year while informing them of important events in France.
Now, it continues to be celebrated in municipalities across Canada.
"I always look forward to celebrating the start of the New Year with my colleagues and fellow Miltonians," Mayor Krantz said in a recent press release.
"This is a long-standing tradition of celebration for our community and I invite our newest residents to join us for the festivities."
