We’re getting into the thick of summer, and it’s no secret that everyone in Mississauga is itching to take a trip. If you don’t want to leave the country but still want to travel, some months are better than others to get the best bang for your buck.
You can travel for cheap by making the most of when and where you’re travelling.
And there’s a lot to explore – from the vineyards in Kelowna to cycling trails in Quebec!
Some places are more popular than others, though.
According to Expedia.ca, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary are the most searched cities on their website, but smaller destinations such as St. John’s, Winniepeg and Victoria also made it to the list.
But how can you make your trip as cheap as possible? According to Expedia.ca, a classic summer road trip can be a good choice to cut costs. A flight to a major airport, picking up a car and hitting the road can also create significant savings.

According to Expedia.ca, June will be the best month to get the cheapest airfare this summer.
Here’s a breakdown:
June – the West coast or Northern Canada
According to Expedia.ca, the first week of June is usually the cheapest to travel. It’s almost 10 per cent cheaper to travel then. And, avoid the last week of June as that’s the most expensive time.
Expedia’s data shows Kelowna, Victoria and Nanaimo have the cheapest airfares in June. Kelowna is nearly 15 per cent cheaper and for a bigger city, Vancouver is over 20 per cent cheaper this month.
You could get up and close to the picturesque Rocky Mountains.
Edmonton flights are 20 per cent cheaper and Calgary flights are 15 per cent cheaper in June. You could rent a car and drive out to one of the national parks.
If you’re more outdoorsy, consider Yellowknife. The flights are 10 per cent cheaper in June and it’s the best time to spot wildlife such as bison, moose and black bears!
July – Quebec
The beginning of the month is expensive, but mid-July is the cheapest time to travel.
Explore the historic quarters of Montreal and Quebec City, go biking in Mont Tremblant and get the best of both city and country. Montreal is a popular foodie destination, and according to Expedia.ca, travel to Quebec City is up over 20 per cent in demand.
If you want to experience a new city, how about the quaint city of Gaspe in Quebec? It’s quickly growing in popularity and is more affordable. The seaside destination’s demand is up by more than 130 per cent and is nearly 30 per cent cheaper based on flight data from 2017, says Expedia.ca.
August – the East coast
The end of August is the cheapest week to travel, heading into the Labour Day weekend. And, it might be the perfect time to squeeze in one final summer trip.
Halifax, St. John’s and Moncton are the most popular destinations on the east coast. And all of them make for great road trips!
St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador is up by 24 per cent in demand according to 2017 flight data, says Expedia.ca.
According to Expedia.ca, this might be the perfect trip for a travelling family with Moncton as the base, and Hopewell Rocks and the beaches in Shediac are both under an hour’s drive away from the city.
And if you’re looking to get out of Canada and take an international vacation?
The most popular destinations in the U.S. include Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Orlando, Chicago and Seattle, according to Expedia.ca. And in Europe, London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Athens and Lisbon are the top choices most Canadians prefer travelling to.
