Halton Healthcare received a grant from the Milton Community Fund. And in a recent press release, it was revealed exactly what this grant went towards.

According to the release, the $48,527 grant was put towards purchasing new medical equipment for the Milton District Hospital (MDH).

With the fund, Halton Healthcare was able to purchase a vein finder.

The vein finder, which has been deemed as the best practice in IV insertion, as noted in the release allows for the visualization of the location and quality of the vein.

This results in increased accuracy when starting a patient’s IV. With that being said, the newly purchased vein finder will help with more timely IV insertions, medication administration, and ultimately an improved patient experience.

In addition, with the fund, Halton Healthcare was also able to purchase equipment for the MDH’s surgical program.

“As our surgical program continues to grow post hospital expansion, so does the need to perform orthopaedic surgeries,” Dr. Ted Scriven, MDH orthopaedic surgeon, said in the release. “The grant funding meant that we were able to purchase an extra hip instrumentation set used to treat fractured hips. The availability of an additional set of instruments means that more patients with fractured hips can be treated on a given day.”

This fund is something that the hospital is very appreciative of.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thank you to the Town of Milton for their generous support through the Milton Community Fund,” Janet Skupsky, Chief Operating Officer, MDH, said in the release. “We are very grateful for this equipment as we continue to provide exemplary patient experiences at Milton District Hospital.”

The Milton Community Fund program works to support activities that enhance the quality of life and/or image of Milton.

Funds for the program are provided based on proceeds received from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Mohawk location).
