A new community centre and library facility is coming to Milton.

This new facility, the Sherwood Community Centre and Library, will be located on the corner of Main St. and Tremaine Rd., next to Sherwood District Park.

The facility is currently scheduled to open in the summer of 2019.

“It is exciting to see construction of this facility moving forward and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the project team to keep it on time and on budget,” Commissioner, Community Services, Kristene Scott said in a recent news release.

“We are looking forward to adding another multi-purpose facility to the community for Miltonians to use and enjoy.”

The Sherwood Community Centre and Library will include a multi-use design in order to be suitable for many different activities, as well as generational spaces and activities in order for it to be accessible to people of all abilities and ages.

Currently, construction work for the new facility will include all below grade civil engineering work, installation of structural steel joists, metal deck, grading for parking lots, excavation and construction of the pool, refrigeration lines for the rink, pouring of concrete slabs, concrete footings, in addition to several walls of block masonry.

The concept plan for the elements in this new facility was approved by Milton council in July.

According to a recent press release, a community meeting, that welcomed all Milton residents, was held in May of 2018 to get feedback on what was to be included in the facility (such as library programs/services, and recreation programs).

According to the community, some of the features of this new community centre may include a branch library, a twin pad area, an aquatic centre, and older adult activity area (lounge, small kitchen, and activity room), and an active living studio.

The current estimated budget for this project is $50-millon.
