Sept. 22 marked the grand opening of the Trafalgar Park Community Centre, along with the opening of Fire Station 3.

The town’s estimated budget for this new project was just over $38-million.

According to the town, this project marked the first time the town used an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach to construction and design.

This community centre will feature an NHL-sized ice surface, an indoor running track, a seniors’ centre, administrative offices, a full-sized gym, a fitness centre, a playground that is fully accessible, exterior washroom facilities, a double tennis court (which will be made into an artificial ice rink during the winters), and a new Kinsmen Pine Room for events and public meetings.

The centre will also retain the wooden roof truss system that was patented and designed by Norman Otto Hipel in 1928.

According to the town, the new Fire Station 3 on the corner of Kerr Street and Rebecca Street is also now open and running.

The station will include a Fire Education and Heritage Room that will have interactive displays, public education materials, historical artifacts, and a 1948 vintage pumper truck on display.
