At the beginning of 2019, inhalton.com published an article about an Oakville resident – James Juhasz (a laser class sailor) – who has been making waves recently. This year, Juhasz participated in his first-ever World Sailing Cup (an annual series for professional sailors) in Miami.

Now, Juhasz has been recognized again.

As noted in a press release, Juhasz obtained an overall fourth-ranking at the North American Laser Championships at Brant Beach Yacht Club in New Jersey last weekend.

The Oakville native finished 33rd at a major competition in Keel, Germany a few weeks ago, missing the target that is needed to make the national development team by three spots

However, his most recent achievement is expected to help him out a bit.

“The New Jersey performance was exactly what Juhasz needed to demonstrate he’s got what it takes to join the elite group,” reads the release.

In New Jersey, Juhasz finished five points behind third place. He kicked the weekend off with two first places, and had four other races in the top five and three others in the top seven.

Juhasz has since returned to the Ontario team training site in Kingston, Ont., where he will prepare for a national event on August 16 in Kingston. His final event of the season will be at the 2019 Under-21 World Laser Championships in Split, Croatia, in late October.

The exact dates of his upcoming events are outlined below.

  • August 16-20, 2019 CORK Olympic Classes Regatta, Kingston, ON
  • Oct 26- Nov 2, 2019 2019 Under-21 World Championships, Split, Croatia.

Juhasz is also working to acquire potential sponsors. And to do so, he has created a website that will help companies understand the benefits of sponsorships.

“Considering the amount of travelling required to compete against the bests in the world, every dollar earned through sponsorships helps me get closer to my Olympic dream,” Juhasz said in a statement. “Sponsorships, tough, in sailing are definitely affordable at my current level.”
