Highway Sign in Milton Pays Homage to Game of Thrones
All Men Must Die....well, not really.
But it seems a diehard fan of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones has decided to pay some homage to the new King of the North.
According to a story from Global News, commuters driving on the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 Friday morning in Milton can now see the ‘James’ part of James Snow Parkway exit sign blacked out and replaced by the name 'Jon'.
The parkway was originally named after James Snow, a former Oakville MPP who served in the Ontario Legislature from 1967-1985. But whether intentionally or not, the fan inadvertently may have just replaced one politician's name with another somewhat political figure from the popular TV show.
In Game of Thrones, Jon Snow (portrayed by actor Kit Harington) is the illegitimate son of one of the noble families of the fictional land of Westeros, House Stark. The character of Snow during the series progressed from a humble beginning standing in the shadow of his siblings in the Stark household, to proving himself on the battlefield and elevated by his peers into the leadership of the North of Westeros ('King of the North'). But whereas James Snow the MPP was in politics because he wanted to, Jon Snow is reluctantly being thrust into the role of having to play politics in the current season of GoT due to circumstances beyond his control.
So yes, I'm somewhat of a recent convert to the series, and it's great to see that there's other fans out there too. But this is the middle of July, and Winter is definitely nowhere near here....yet. A little rampant imagination now and then can't hurt anyone, but hopefully this doesn’t become a habit lest it confuses drivers actually looking for James Snow Parkway.
However, I'm sure most commuters this morning found this a little amusing on their drive to work this morning.
