Hiker from Kitchener falls to his death in Burlington

A man hiking on Mount Nemo in Burlington fell to his death yesterday afternoon (July 30).

According to reports, the 58-year-old was with friends on the escarpment when he slipped off a cliff.

It has been confirmed that the man was from Kitchener and that he was hiking with his fiance and other friends.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. in what started out as a rescue mission that lasted seven hours on rough terrain. However, despite locating the man and efforts to revive him he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“(We) can confirm that tragically an individual fell to their death yesterday while at Mount Nemo Conservation Area,” wrote Halton Regional Police in response to inquires from inhalton.com.

It took several hours to remove the body from the scene.

So far, investigators say the incident is being ruled accidental.
