Burlington, it seems, is a city with a lot of very lucky lotto winners.

So is Oakville.
More locals – and those living nearby – are enjoying a great windfall.

A group of 10 coworkers from southwestern Ontario will be splitting a big lottery win after winning the March 9 LottoMax draw

The prize: $172,314.20.

“We’ve been playing as a group for about two months,” said group leader Brandon St. Amand, while the group of friends was at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their cheque.

“We started purchasing our tickets online at PlayOLG.ca about three weeks ago, using the new ‘never miss a draw’ feature.”

St. Amand, an entrepreneur, received an email from PlayOLG advising him of his win.

“I logged in the next day and saw that we had won $172-plus thousand dollars. I was shaking and couldn’t believe it.”

The 42-year-old married father of three showed the screen to his wife to confirm that what he was seeing was real.

“Then I started calling the group members one by one to share the good news – they were all excited and in disbelief like myself,” he said.

The group members are:

  • Jane Allison of Burlington.
  • Kelly Riley Dunbavin of Burlington.
  • Margaret Anderson of Oakville.
  • Christopher Farias of Hamilton.
  • John Smith of Hamilton.
  • Kathryn Stiel of Hamilton.
  • Natasha Szostak of Ancaster.
  • Heather-Anne Williams of Brantford.
  • Brandon St. Amand of Woodstock.
  • Jennifer Hudder of Mount Hope.

“It’s been amazing to see how much this win will help my group – from buying a new car, house down payments and other bills,” said St. Amand.

“It has brought us all much closer together.”
