Burlington road street construction delays traffic detour

A major north-south route in Burlington is about to undergo a long-awaited overhaul.

The work will centre on Waterdown Rd. just north of Hwy. 403 and once completed is expected to provide better traffic flow through the emerging community.

The work calls for the reconstruction and widening of the road between Craven Ave. and Mountain Brow Rd.

This will include the installation of a concrete curb and multi-use pathway, new lighting as well as sewer and watermain installation.

Some work will also take place on Flatt Rd.

“This is a major project that will improve the way we move through Burlington,” construction officials recently told the public. “As the growth in the northern part of the city continues we have to be ready to meet the public’s needs.”

Some work on the project has been ongoing but the major construction will commence early in 2024.

Because of the scope of the project, an online information portal will eventually be established to keep the public informed about scheduling, traffic restrictions, and other construction impacts.

The work is a joint project of the City of Burlington, City of Hamilton and Halton Region.
