If you’re looking for a late summer festival that will keep little ones entertained, an event created with kids in mind is happening in Oakville next month.

The 4th Annual Kerrfest Kids, a one-day event featuring food, music and activities, will take place on Sept. 10 at Westwood Park (173 Kerr St.).

“It is a one-day celebration dedicated to families and their children,” the event’s website reads.

While the family-friendly festival will provide kids and their families with some entertainment, some residents were disappointed to hear that the all-ages Kerrfest was cancelled

Earlier this year, the Kerr Village Business Improvement Association (BIA) said it had to modify the annual event due to current economic challenges, including inflation and rising supplier costs.

While Kerrfest Kids was unaffected, the other popular live music event, which also occurs at Westwood Park, was shelved for at least this year. The Kerr Village BIA said it is dedicated to exploring new strategies, partnerships and avenues of support to ensure the success of the outdoor music festival in the future.

The kids’ event, which is free to attend, will kick off at noon and wrap up at 6 pm. Musical guests slated to perform throughout the day include Crash Rhythm, Dorothy & Wags (who are associated with the famous Australian children’s music group, The Wiggles), Mystic Drumz and Leave Those Kids Alone.

Leave Those Kids Alone, which released its debut album in 2022, is comprised of five teenagers who play note-for-note renditions of classic rock songs. The members hail from Windsor and Detroit and have performed across Ontario, Michigan and the Midwest.

Attendees will also be able to enjoy food onsite. Participating vendors include Boffo’s Fine Foods, Cobs Bread, Hippie Pops, La Dolce Vita Gelato and Espresso Bar, The Mermaid and Zesty Shawarma & Halal Grill.

According to the event’s Facebook page, guests can also expect a DJ, a roaming social media photo booth, a Marvel character, clowns, face painting and more.
