A large industrial warehouse planned for the central part of Burlington is expected to become a major logistic hub.

The one-storey, 325,328 square-foot facility is planned for a vacant property on Appleby Line north of Dundas St. and just below Hwy. 407.

According to a report considered by a City of Burlington committee, the building will likely be used as a distribution warehouse with 44 loading docks which be located in the rear of the building. Two entrances will be located on Palladium Way.

While the report indicated there is some public opposition to the plan, City councillors pointed out the area is intended as a business corridor and the proposal fits that use.

At the committee meeting, Ward 6 councillor Angelo Bentivegna said this type of business is needed to supply jobs for residents and is appropriately placed considering its proximity to the highway.

A spokesperson representing the ownership company told the committee the building may house several tenants who need logistic operations.

While the committee gave its approval to the project, the matter still has to go before City council.
