The province says that 634 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ontario and that over 700 residents have died of the virus.

The province says that 634 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ontario and that over 700 residents have died of the virus. While case numbers are increasing, it does not appear that the rate of hospitalizations is increasing at this time.

Models recently released by the province also suggested that Ontario has reached its peak in the pandemic. 

As of 4:00 pm on April 22, Ontario is reporting 12,879 cases of the novel coronavirus in the province. 

The province says 713 people have died of the disease, while another 6,680 have made full recoveries. 

The province says 887 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 233 being treated in intensive care units. The website says 185 patients are currently using ventilators. 

According to the website, 194,745 people have been tested for the virus and 6,757 possible cases are under investigation. The website says 10,214 tests have been completed in the last day.

In Halton Region there are now a total of 466 COVID-19 cases (up 19 from Wednesday’s report), with 410 confirmed cases and 56 probable cases.

There are currently 93 cases in Burlington, 148 in Oakville, 100 in Milton, and 124 in Halton Hills, and one case pending further details.

18 deaths have been reported in Halton.

At this time, 217 cases have reportedly resulted in a recovery.

Among the total cases, 70 (15%) have been residents or patients associated with a confirmed institutional outbreak, and among the total deaths, 9 (50%) have been residents or patients associated with a confirmed institutional outbreak.

The region states that municipality counts may be inflated by outbreaks occurring in institutions located in their boundaries.

The province and region are continuing to update their numbers on a daily basis.
