Organizers of the Three Musketears Golf Tournament recently donated $9,464.49 to the Acton Youth Centre, which will be used towards furnishings and recreational opportunities for the outdoor patio space.

The golf tournament takes place on an annual basis in memory of Mark Everson, Travis Toth and Rory Dick, three youth from Acton, that were killed in their car by a freight train 21 years ago.

Over the past 17 years, family and friends of the three youth have raised and donated funds in their honour to several community initiatives including the Three Musketears Skatepark in Acton.

“This was a real tragedy to the whole community of Acton. I was quite close to one of the families and the loss is a pain that doesn’t go away. The family golf tournament and donation has been a great legacy for their sons who were killed,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.

Kathy Toth, Melissa Toth-Rooney, Gord Toth, Kathy Everson and Rick Everson, all of which are representatives from the organization, provided the donation cheque to the mayor.

This newly renovated youth centre, which is located at 19 Willow Street North within the Acton Town Hall, officially opened on Oct. 5 and will serve as an activity hub to gather, socialize and learn.

It includes several amenities such as a large open space for gathering and other activities, outdoor program space, a family-style kitchen, community rooms, showers and laundry amenities.

The municipality has two youth centres in Acton and Georgetown, both of which are operated by trained staff in partnership with social service agencies such as Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), ADAPT and Support House.

All admissions and programs are free of charge and open to youth between the ages of 12 and 24.
