While December and 2019 are nearing their end, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Old Man Winter in the coming months, according to The Weather Network’s winter forecast.

The forecast reports that much of the country is in for a harsh winter, including Ontario, with near normal or colder-than-normal temperatures expected.

“Early November has provided a preview of what is to come, as we expect a long, cold and snowy winter forecast,” The Weather Network says.

The cold weather is expected to be most consistent during mid and late winter (which means the worst may be yet to come), with extended periods of severe cold.

Additionally, the forecast cites an active storm track that’ll likely bring above normal snow totals to much of the region, along with a risk of freezing rain, especially across southern Ontario.

“An abundance of lake-effect snow is likely until above normal ice coverage on the Great Lakes becomes a limiting factor during February,” according to the forecast.
