Major construction on the QEW is causing delays and issues for drivers and commuters in Oakville.

At this time, there are separate ramps to get to Ford Drive and to Highway 403, according to the OPP and Ministry of Transportation.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Michael Fenn, confirmed in an email that the current traffic configuration at the QEW and Ford Drive is temporary and is part of an ongoing construction project slated to be completed next fall.

“The project involves the rehabilitation and replacement of a number of bridges along the QEW/403 interchange from Winston Churchill Boulevard to Royal Windsor Drive,” said Fenn.

The new eastbound QEW ramp to the 403 no longer shares a ramp with Ford Drive so if you are taking the Ford Drive exit, you will be forced to exit at Ford Drive.

To access the 403 from the QEW, you will need to bypass the ramp to Ford Drive and continue east to the new ramp.

Fen also added that after work is completed on the eastbound QEW bridge over Ford Drive, the combined exit ramp to Highway 403 and Ford Drive will be re-instated and there will be new paving throughout.

“We appreciate drivers’ patience as work continues in this area,” said Fenn.

“We will ensure drivers are made aware of the upcoming changes through the use of signage in the area.”

Construction began in June 2018 and completion is scheduled for Fall 2021.
