Major supermarket chain to celebrate grand opening of third Oakville store

A new grocery store in Oakville is officially opening its doors this Thursday (July 20).

Food Basics is celebrating the grand opening of its 144th store with a ribbon cutting and a donation to a good cause.

The new store is the third in Oakville for the Canadian supermarket chain and is located on the border near Burlington at the Burloak Marketplace Plaza, located at 3535 Rebecca St.

Mayor Rob Burton will also be on hand for the ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m. Food Basics will also be making a $5,000 donation to Kerr Street Mission during the celebration.

Founded in 1995, the Canadian supermarket chain is owned by Metro Inc. and has two other local stores located at 530 Kerr St. and 478 Dundas St. W.

The Food Basics chain is known for its lower prices.
