Male arrested after armed robbery attempt in Milton

Officers have made an arrest following an attempted robbery in Milton this evening.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., police say a lone male entered the Hasty Market convenience store near Derry and Thompson Road and attempted to rob the clerk at knifepoint.

The suspect was unable to take anything and fled the store empty-handed.

A few minutes later, responding officers found the suspect walking through a nearby park, and the suspect allegedly brandished his knife again.

“Officers from uniform patrol, K9, and the Emergency Services Unit quickly contained the suspect,” said police.

“After a brief de-escalation conversation the suspect dropped the knife and he was taken into custody without incident.”

No injuries were reported and police say there is no risk to the public.

Officers currently remain at the scene of the robbery and the scene of the arrest for the investigation.

Police say the suspect’s name and charges will not be disclosed at this time.
