Milton council to consider lowering Town’s standard speed limit
Next month, the standard speed limit throughout the Town of Milton will be up for discussion.
A notice of motion to consider a change to the standard speed limit is being brought forward by Councillor Zeeshan Hamid and seconded by Councillor Sameera Ali.
Currently, the default speed limit in Milton is 50km/hr.
The notice of motion points out that many neighbourhood roads throughout the Town, particularly in new developments are narrow, contain homes on both sides and have cars parked on the street.
The notice of motion also notes that vehicles travelling at 50km/hr “create a dangerous situation by travelling faster than the traffic flow and what is appropriate for the road.”
As a result, it is being recommended that staff report back to Council on the possibility of reducing the un-posted speed limit to 40km/hr and that staff reports on alternatives as to whether there are better approaches for reducing the speed limit.
This notice of motion will be introduced on Jan. 17 and will be considered on Feb. 7.insauga's Editorial Standards and Policies advertising
