Milton Disappointed by Sudden Cancellation of University Expansion

A recent announcement has left some people in the town of Milton very disappointed.
A recent announcement has left some people in the town of Milton very disappointed.
According to the town, on the evening Oct. 23, Milton received a sudden notice of the province’s plan to cancel planned funding for the new Wilfrid Laurier’s campus in Milton.
Since 2008, the town has had a written understanding and partnership with the school to bring post-secondary education to the community.
In September 2018, Milton’s council endorsed the theoretical land use plan and policy framework for the Milton Education Village (MEV) lands with the new campus at its core.

“To say that I am disappointed with the Provincial announcement is an understatement,” Milton Mayor Gord Krantz, said in a recent news release.
“As I begin my thirteenth term as Mayor, I know that this is just a bump in the road for Milton. We have invested ten years of hard work into making post-secondary education in Milton a reality – we have no intention of walking away now.”
But as with any large-scale project, set-backs can happen.
The town is planning to work with Wilfrid Laurier University and community partners to realize this vision.
