Milton residents left out in the cold as Costco rumours circulate everywhere

Oakville is getting another Costco! No wait, it’s coming to Halton Hills. Hey, what about Milton?
As rumours of Costco opening up almost everywhere continue to swirl, the only thing we know for sure is nothing is confirmed.
In the past weeks, social media sites have speculated that the mega-shopping warehouse is eyeing two sites in Halton Region — in Oakville and Georgetown — but Costco has remained non-committal on the subject. The company policy is that new stores are announced only three months in advance and nothing is on the local radar.
Still, Milton residents feel they have been left out in the cold when it comes to potential sites.
“What about us!!!???” was a constant refrain from Milton residents when the subject appeared on Reddit recently.
“Why would they build another one in Oakville so close to the Burlington store?” one Reddit user commented. “It just doesn’t make sense. It’s not the Costco way to put them so close together. Milton is one of the fastest growing communities in the country, the next one has to come here.”
The subject came up again recently when Khaled Iwamura of inhalton.com interviewed Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz.
“I wish I knew,” Krantz responded when asked if he had information about Costco opening up in town. “You would be surprised how often I am asked that.”
Krantz acknowledged that the operators of Costco are “very smart” when choosing their locations and that they know the shopping habits of their customers and what they are willing to do.
“Why would they spend millions of dollars locating in Milton when everyone in Milton is driving to Mississauga or Burlington to buy their stuff?” he said.
However, Krantz still believes it is a matter of time before Costco comes to town to serve a population that is only getting larger.
“I’ve been advocating for quite some time but you have to be careful of applying too much pressure on private enterprise,” he said.
