Some big changes are coming to Milton’s infrastructure after it was announced that the town is getting thousands of dollars in federal funding.

According to a statement from Milton MP Adam van Koeverden, Milton is one of eight communities across Canada that were recently approved to get $50,000 from the Municipal Asset Management Program, funded by the federal government.

The funding will allow Milton to update its asset management plan to include all core municipal infrastructure assets such as roads, bridges, culverts, traffic, and stormwater management.

“With this funding, local decision makers can plan and ensure that repairs and upgrades are being made before they are needed, increasing the lifespan of our roads, bridges and other local infrastructure,” van Koeverden said.

“Milton is growing at an incredible rate, and as we grow I will always be a strong champion for increasing infrastructure funding.”

Mayor Gordon Krantz echoed this sentiment, stating that Milton is Ontario’s fastest growing community and has a responsibility to maintain its infrastructure in the most effective way possible.

“As part of Council’s commitment to financial sustainability, this plan allows for Council to have a road map to best manage infrastructure needs over the coming years,” said Krantz.

Funding for these eight new initiatives under the Municipal Asset Management Program amounts to a total of $361,280.

More information on the program is available via the Federation of Canadian Municipalities website.
