Milton Town Council endorses Stage 2 plan to re-open facilities

Milton Town Council endorsed staff recommendations for the second stage of re-opening on Monday (June 22).

“The Town is pleased to re-introduce programs and services to the community,” said the Town of Milton in an official statement. “All re-designed programs and services will look different from pre-COVID-19 to include precautions to reduce the spread of the virus.”

Arenas

  • Sherwood Community Centre will open on July 6 for ice rentals for organizations that meet provincial regulations only

Camps

  • A modified camp program will be offered with a target start date of July 20.  Camps will be phased based on demand and operate at FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, Memorial Arena and the Milton Sports Centre
  • These buildings will only be open for camps, with no public access
  • Program and registration details will soon be available

Aquatics

  • Sherwood Community Centre pool will open for swimming on July 13

Sports Fields/Diamonds

  • Opened June 20 for rentals that are only training based only, no game play or scrimmages permitted

Spray Pads

  • 14 Spray Pads will open June 26 (except Rotary Park)

Milton Transit

  • Residents are strongly encouraged to use face coverings (e.g. non-medical masks) while using Milton Transit and to continue practicing physical distancing while on transit, where possible

“I’m happy we can begin to offer fun and safe recreational experiences for our community.” said Mayor Gord Krantz “While our facilities and services will look different, precautions have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of staff and residents.”

As select facilities and services re-open, staff says it will monitor the demand for facilities and programs to gauge future re-openings.
