Burlington’s aging population and the general increase in need will see Burlington add one more Handi-Van to its bus fleet this year.
The Handi-Van is a specialized service offered by Burlington Transit that provides door-to-door service for people with disabilities or mobility issues.
According to a City of Burlington report, the additional service is necessary to meet the increasing demand in the community as more people come to rely on Handi-Vans. Users often have to book the Handi-Van several days in advance.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward has commented in the past that the city has seen “an explosion” in the demand for the Handi-Van as so many people rely on the service to get around town.
Along with the news about the Handi-Van, Burlington is also adding four conventional buses to its fleet and nine more drivers.
To be eligible for the Handi-Van service you must first register. You can find more information here.
