More damage than reward as Burlington thieves target courthouse for copper

A Burlington courthouse was the target of thieves who earlier this month wanted to make some quick cash by stealing copper tubing.

In the end, thieves got away with a small amount of copper but in the process caused a lot of damage.

Police say the Ontario Provincial Courthouse on Plains Rd. E. was targetted sometime between Dec. 8 and 12.

To get the tubing police say the thieves damaged the building’s cooling system.

Copper is often sought in robberies because it has a high scrap value and it can be reused for the making of plumbing equipment.

In this recent case, the culprits only got away with $10 worth of copper but caused $5,000 in damage to the air conditioning unit while trying to rip the tubing out.

Police are searching for the suspects and ask anyone with information on this crime to call them at 905-825-4777.
