Update 8 p.m.: More than 1,500 homes have had their power restored. However, crews remain on the scene to restore hydro to the remaining customers. They expect to be finished around 11 p.m.

More than 1,700 Burlington Hydro customers are in the dark during the GTA’s first major winter storm.

Burlington Hydro announced the outage just after 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. They said 1,755 people lacked power in the area around Ireland Park near Dundas St. and Hwy. 407. The energy company said wind damage to their electrical infrastructure knocked the power out.

A team is en route to restore power, with an estimated time of repair around 11 p.m.

It’s three degrees in Burlington at the moment but feels like minus two. Wet snow is falling across the city but it’s expected to turn to snow overnight. Average winds at the moment are just shy of 40 km/h but stronger gusts have reached nearly 65 km/h.
