The application to expand the Nelson Quarry in Burlington into multi-use properties, including a golf course, was deemed “complete” by regional staff.

The proposal must now undergo a lengthy application process.

The existing quarry is located on No. 2 Side Rd. The expansion proposes to extend the quarry to Cedar Springs Rd.

On May 14, Halton Regional staff received an application to amend the Regional Official Plan to permit an expansion to the Nelson Burlington Quarry.

Under the Planning Act, municipalities normally have 30 days to deem the application complete and commence its review. Given the Provincial Order that suspends Planning Act timeframes, the 30-day completeness review window did not formally commence until June 22.

On July 20, after a review and consultation with the Joint Agency Review Team partners, the Region’s Chief Planning Official and City of Burlington staff deemed the application to amend the Regional Official Plan complete.

There will be a report on the September Halton Regional Council agenda that will profile key aspects of the application submission and will highlight for council the next steps, including opportunities for engagement and public input.

The city of Burlington created a dedicated webpage for all materials and reports related to the Quarry Expansion application. You can find that here: https://www.burlington.ca/en/services-for-you/nelson-quarry-extension.asp.
