Il Gelato di Carlotta brings a “taste of Florence” to Downtown Oakville.

Oakville’s newest desert shop for those who crave sweetness from the heart of Italy recently celebrated its grand opening.

From Italian gelato and pastries to paninis and pastas, Il Gelato di Carlotta has you covered. There’s even doggy gelato.

All from family recipes that date back many generations.

“We love delighting our customers with new flavours,” Il Gelato di Carlotta said on its website. “Our goal is to indulge our patrons with ingredients that charm even the most discerning palate. A creaminess that only handcrafted gelato can deliver, made from traditional ingredients.

“New flavours are periodically introduced based on the season. However, we try our best to be consistent with our most popular flavours.”

Oakville Mayor Rob Burton was on hand for last week’s grand opening.

“What a wonderful opening for @ilgelatodicarlotta,” Burton said on Twitter. “Oakville continues to be a hotspot for new businesses! Have a walk in our beautiful new downtown streetscape and try some gelato or a new restaurant!”

After moving to Canada, Carlotta Cattani, President and Director of Production and flavour development of Il Gelato di Carlotta, was determined to bring her passion and know-how for authentic Italian gelato here.

Along with her husband and two brothers, they opened their first location in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2013.

The business took off and other locations opened up in Niagara Falls, Toronto, Port Dalhousie and now downtown Oakville.

Customers can also grab a cup of the “finest” Italian coffee, cappuccino, espresso or an affogato (one or two scoops of gelato laced with a shot or two of espresso).

“As master gelato makers from Florence, we take gelato seriously,” the business said on its site. “Il Gelato di Carlotta embodies the essence of what Italian gelato really is – Florentine gelato craftsmanship, combined with top quality ingredients, creativity and genuine love for gelato.”

Il Gelato di Carlotta is located at 312 Lakeshore Rd. E. and is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
