A new company focusing on ‘learn to swim’ programs is setting up shop in a Milton fitness centre.

British Swim School, billed as the North American leader of “learn to swim” franchise programs, is opening a location at LA Fitness, 1117 Maple Ave.

Franchise owner Rahul Jaswal is excited to open his second British Swim School location to spread awareness about the importance of swim safety and offer a safe and convenient location for Milton residents to learn how to swim.

I am thrilled to be opening a second location in the Halton region,” said Jaswal. “Providing an inviting and accessible space for Milton residents to learn swimming and survival skills is my way of giving back to the community. Ensuring families and children feel comfortable while gaining confidence in the water is so important for our entire team.”

The pool is located at LA Fitness, where the team is ready to teach life-saving swimming skills to children (and adults) in a fun and safe environment taught by trained swimming instructors.

This location is also offering modified swimming lessons to teach students with special abilities. The swim instructor will work one-on-one with each student to acclimatize them to the water with sensory play activities while working on an introduction to skills used in the next level.

Born and raised in India, where many residents, including children, love the water but do not know how to swim, Jaswal himself learned to swim after moving to Canada 17 years ago and knows all too well the importance of learning safe water skills from a young age to prevent accidental drownings.

“Rahul has been a wonderful addition to the British Swim School family and we congratulate him on his second franchise location in the Halton region,” said Ashley Gundlach, British Swim School President.

“Rahul is a passionate advocate of the importance of teaching children to swim from a young age and is excited to further serve the region with a second location in Milton. Families in the community will receive the most dependable and reputable swim lessons and water survival skills in a safe environment.”

British Swim School offers a three-part curriculum teaching children and adults of all ages, as young as three months, water acclimation, safety and survival skills, and swim stroke development.

While parental supervision is always the No. 1safety measure, research shows participating in formal swim programs can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 per cent among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning.
