New transit network coming to Burlington
Burlington is attempting to make improvements to transit, in an effort to make traversing the city more accessible for those who do not or choose not to drive a car.
Burlington’s Transit plans to put forward a five-year operational program that will focus on developing a new transit network.
The four main goals of the new transit network are: increasing frequency and reliability of bus service, focusing service on the city’s most heavily travelled streets, creating better connections with other major transportation systems like GO rail service, and improving the comfort and convenience of taking transit.
From 2011 to 2016, Burlington saw its population increase by 4.3 per cent, and the projected population for the city by 2031 is just under 200,000 people—193,000.
As a result of the anticipated population growth, the city believes a new transit network is necessary to ensure people can efficiently get around the city.
