Be kind.

It’s a simple message, but not one some residents in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills are following in emergency departments at local hospitals.

Staff at local hospitals already have enough on their plate dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but they are also having to deal with some unruly residents.

Halton Healthcare is making it clear that any kind of abuse will not be tolerated.

“Our Emergency Departments are under extreme pressure,” Halton Healthcare said in a pair of tweets released on Twitter Friday afternoon. “The demand for care has escalated and wait times are much higher than normal.

“Our entire healthcare team is working under extraordinary pressure and unfortunately they are experiencing verbal and physical abuse.”

Halton Healthcare say everyone is entitled to a safe and secure environment.

“Abuse of staff and physicians is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the local health unit continued. “Please be kind as everyone is working tirelessly to ensure patients receive the care they need.”
