Oakville House Cleaners Charged With Theft

A pair of house cleaners who worked in Oakville are facing charges for allegedly stealing property belonging to the homeowners.

The suspects were arrested, charged, and released on a promise to appear.

Halton police say they received reports from a home in the Palermo area on Highvalley Rd.

That’s near Bronte Rd. and Dundas St. W.

Viola Szava, 39, and Zsolt Szava, 46, of Scarborough are charged with theft over $5,000..

Police are reminding the public of the following prevention tips:

  • Use a reputable house cleaner company.
  • Consider using house cleaning services that have bonded employees.
  • Store valuables out of sight.
  • Consider storing valuables off-site in a safety deposit box.
  • Ensure your house insurance would cover such thefts.
  • Consider using temporary entry codes for the cleaning service.
  • Avoid services where the employees change on a regular basis.
