His last day?

March 30, or Good Friday.

“It is with much regret that I offer my resignation as town councillor for Ward 4,” said Coun. Roger Lapworth in a news release issued Thursday.

“It has been an honour to serve the residents of Ward 4 these past 12 years, and I want to thank my council colleagues for their support during my time on council.”

Council will consider options to fill the vacant seat at its April 3 meeting.

Under the Municipal Act, council must pass a motion to declare the seat to be vacant at its next meeting.

An appointment to fill the vacancy must be made within 60 days of declaring the seat to be vacant.

The town’s procedure for filling vacancies on town council notes that between Jan. 1 of a regular election year and 90 days prior to voting day, the vacant position will be filled by appointment only.

Lapworth was first elected to Oakville council in 2006.

In addition to serving as town councillor for Ward 4, Lapworth has served on the boards of the Bronte BIA, the Oakville Humane Society and the Oakville Library during his tenure.

The next municipal election is on Oct. 22.
