Oakville native Nick Lardis is off to the Windy City.

The Hamilton Bulldogs forward was selected in the third round (67th overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks on the second day of the NHL draft.

Lardis’ game took off after being traded by the eventual OHL champion Peterborough Petes to the rebuilding Bulldogs ahead of the Jan. 10 OHL Trade Deadline.

After recording 19 points in 36 games with the Petes, Lardis, 17, teamed with Sahlin Panwar, also acquired in the same deal from Peterborough, and the duo went on a tear.

Lardis would score 25 times and add 21 assists for 46 points in just 33 games with Hamilton and then capped it off with an impressive playoff performance, with five goals and five assists for 10 points in Hamilton’s opening-round six-game series loss to the Barrie Colts.

His 65 points last season was second to only Panwar’s 69 points in team scoring.

Lardis was also impressive in leading Canada to a bronze medal at the 2023 IIHF U18 World Championships. The 17-year-old had four goals in just seven games.

The five-foot-11, 165-pound forward had 18 goals and 37 points in 63 games as a rookie in Peterborough.
