Grab your bathing suits and get soaked at Nelson Park this weekend — the popular outdoor pool in Burlington is re-opening on Saturday following a two-year closure.
That’s one week earlier than the anticipated date of July 15; the announcement was made by the city on Friday morning.
“I have had a preview of the new pool and splash pad and I know people are going to love it,” said Mayor Rick Goldring.
The Nelson pool had previously been deemed unsafe.
Here are some of the additions, complete with a $4.9 million price tag:
- Climbing wall feature in deep end.
- New diving boards.
- New accessible ramp into the pool.
- Interactive splash pad featuring jets, small animal spray features, and a giant tipping bucket.
- New pool filtration equipment and heaters.
- New concrete deck around the pool and splash pad.
- Various amenities such as seating areas, shade, diving boards and play equipment.
- The new splash pad is designed and constructed to engage children of all ages.
The new pool is 50-metres long with eight lanes and you’ll find the splash pad beside the pool at 4183 New St.
Facilities will be open for recreational swimming between 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. seven days a week, starting July 8.
The official grand opening is on Tuesday, Aug. 1 from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Admission is free and there will be giveaways and fun activities.
The ribbon-cutting is taking place at noon.
