Over 9,000 students participate in Milton’s community cleanup

Over 9,000 students participated in the Town of Milton’s community cleanup in celebration of Earth Day.
Earth Day, which falls annually on April 22, has been celebrated since 1970 and is a day to raise awareness about environmental protection and maintaining a healthy planet.
This year’s official theme for 2022 according to earthday.org, was “Invest in Our Planet” which was meant to encourage others to take action on climate and go all-in on a partnership for the planet.
In honour of this celebration, the Town of Milton encouraged the community to participate in cleanup days.
According to the Town, this year’s efforts resulted in 40 bags of garbage collected from parks, trails and ponds, 80 bags of litter gathered by volunteers on Apr. 16 and 160 bags of garbage collected by over 9,300 students who participated in the cleanup.

“We would like to thank the Wood Wyant/Sani Marc group for donating cleanup supplies (bags and gloves), the @HaltonDSB Milton schools for encouraging students to get involved, and @SustainMilton for assisting with organizing the Earth Day cleanup efforts,” wrote the Town of Milton on Twitter.
