Passerby helps disarm knife-wielding Burlington GO bus rider

A passerby came to the rescue of a Burlington GO bus worker to help control an agitated passenger who pulled a knife.

According to reports, the incident unfolded just after noon on Sunday (April 16) when the bus arrived at the Aldershot GO station on Waterdown Rd.

The GO employee entered the bus to begin clean-up but when he did so he discovered a passenger was still onboard.

When the passenger was asked to leave reports indicate he became angry, took out a knife and made threats.

A passerby who noticed what was happening then teamed up with the worker and managed to force the culprit off the bus. During the struggle, the knife was dropped and the unruly passenger was held until Halton Regional Police arrived on the scene.

No injuries were reported.

A man of no fixed address has since been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. His name has not been released. He is being held pending a bail hearing.
