A model of Peloton exercise bikes is being recalled this week, due to the risk of the seat’s post breaking— resulting in a falling injury.

Health Canada is warning consumers who have purchased an exercise bike to double-check the brand and model as it could be part of the recalled items.

The affected product is the Peloton Bike, which were sold between January 2018 and May 2023.

The model number being recalled is PL01 and can be found near the flywheel.

The bike measures 1.2 meters (4 feet) long and 0.6 meters (2 feet) wide. It has an adjustable seat, handlebar, and screen— that can tilt up and down to accommodate different heights.

The point of concern is that after assembly the post of the seat could break while in use, causing the individual to fall including other injury related hazards.

This issue has occurred primarily to users who are taller than 5’11” (180 cm) and above 250 pounds (114 kg).

Consumers are being urged to immediately stop using the recalled exercise bike and contact the Peloton company for a free repair.

To date, the Peloton company reported that approximately 108,000 of the recalled bikes were sold in Canada.

Peloton is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed. After May 16, 2023, Peloton can be reached toll-free at (833) 821-0099 from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. ET, 7 days a week

As of May 11th, 2023, the company has received 1 reported incident and no reports of injury in Canada.
